About Qantas:

Qantas Airways  is the flag carrier of Australia and its largest airline by fleet size, international flights and international destinations.[5] It is the third oldest airline in the world, after KLM and Avianca[6] having been founded in November 1920; it began international passenger flights in May 1935. The Qantas name comes from “QANTAS”, an acronym for its original name, “Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services”, and it is nicknamed “The Flying Kangaroo”. Qantas is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance.
The airline is based in the Sydney suburb of Mascot with its main hub at Sydney Airport. As of March 2014, Qantas had a 65% share of the Australian domestic market and carried 14.9% of all passengers travelling in and out of Australia.[7][8] Various subsidiary airlines operate to regional centres and on some trunk routes within Australia under the QantasLink banner. Its subsidiary Jetconnect provides services between Australia and New Zealand, flying under the Qantas brand. Qantas also owns Jetstar Airways, a low-cost airline that operates both international services from Australia and domestic services within Australia and New Zealand; and holds stakes in a number of other Jetstar-branded airlines.

Commenced operations: March 1921

Slogan: The Spirit of Australia[2]

  1. I recently travelled on the Dreamliner from Perth to Heathrow. I paid for a premium economy seat which I used from Perth to London and then upgraded to business class using 50,000 of my frequent flyer points on the return leg. Both journeys were very comfortable except for the food. I had requested a gluten free option as I am a Coeliac. On the journey over they had muddled my dinner with breakfast so therefore I didn’t get my meal until way after everyone had finished as I had to wait to see what they had leftover from business class. Then the second meal which was breakfast they bought out pastries and juice for everyone, realised they had nothing for me and much later gave me a mushroom risotto which I had to eat because I was so hungry from not being fed the night before. Then much later I was offered some scrambled eggs left over again from business class. The return journey was even worse. I was in business class, I was told they didn’t have an entrée for me as the soup had traces of gluten, the main course was fish with potato and courgette, then I was not even offered a dessert. I saw everyone else being served 3 course meals, including steaks etc, plus desserts of fruit and ice cream yet I was offered nothing. I paid a premium amount of money, plus 50,000 frequent flyer points and quite frankly the food was shocking. I am not gluten free by choice I have coeliac’s disease and I think the airline could do much better to cater for it.
